Spectrophotometric Method for the Determination of Propoxur in Grain and Vegetable Samples

A highly selective, sensitive and rapid spectrophotometric method for the determination of propoxur in grain and vegetablesamples is proposed. Thedetermination is based on the hydrolysis of propoxur to o-propoxyphenol, its diazotisation and subsequent coupling with p-ami nobenzoic acid, to give a yellow orange dye having absorption maximum at 470 nm. The method is quantitative and reproducible and obeys Beer's law in the range from 0.1 to 0.8 ppm in extractive system. The method is selective, as it is free from interference of carbaryl, and other carbamate insecticides.
